Frequently Asked Questions

What is Haywood Haven?

Haywood Haven is a Christ-centered learning community for homeschool families in Haywood County. We partner with parents in both academics and Christian discipleship, offering small, hands-on classes that nurture each child’s faith, confidence, and curiosity.

We’re not a traditional school or a drop-off co-op — we’re something beautifully in between. Families maintain their homeschool status with the state, while we provide expert teachers, structured classes, and a Christ-centered community to support them.
For the 2025–26 year, we serve kindergarten through sixth grade. We’ve always offered upper-grade classes, but we decided to focus on K-6 this year so we could hone in on what we want to offer for older students. We’ll be adding back classes for older students next year.
No. Because families are registered as homeschoolers, accreditation is not necessary. However, our curriculum and instruction meet or exceed private school standards.

Enrollment & Schedule

Start by filling out our Interest Form on the website. We’ll schedule a parent call and campus visit to help you determine if our program is the right fit for your family.

Classes are offered Tuesday through Thursday between 8:00 AM and 3:15 PM. Tuesdays & Wednesdays are core class days.

Thursday is optional but highly encouraged.
If families choose a two-day schedule, parents are responsible for teaching Thursday’s lesson at home using our weekly guidance sheet.

Yes! Classes are a la carte, so families can create a full or partial day based on their child’s needs. We offer both core academics and enrichment classes, all taught from a biblical worldview.

We select high-quality, mastery-based curriculum chosen for clarity, flexibility, and depth — including Singapore Math, Fundations, Story of the World, Abeka science, and more. Curriculum is purchased by parents and used collaboratively between home and classroom.

Yes. All families enrolled at Haywood Haven must maintain a North Carolina homeschool registration. We provide support for this process if you’re new to it.

Philosophy & Learning Approach

Students move forward when they’ve truly mastered a skill — not just because the calendar says it’s time. This allows us to fill learning gaps, strengthen confidence, and celebrate real growth.

Every day begins with prayer, scripture, and worship. Faith isn’t a subject we add in — it’s the foundation of everything we do. Our goal is for students to know God, love His Word, and live out their purpose with joy and confidence.

We’re not trying to replicate school at home. We’re restoring peace and purpose to education through small classes, joyful community, and a true parent-teacher partnership.
Our small group model allows teachers to adapt instruction for each child’s learning style — visual, kinesthetic, auditory, or creative. We use hands-on materials, movement, and individualized feedback to help every student succeed.
We believe parent involvement in their children’s education isn’t just beneficial; it’s vital. You’ll reinforce lessons at home, communicate regularly with teachers, and stay engaged in our community through volunteering, prayer, and partnership.

Community Life

Connection is part of our rhythm. Parents and children share meals, attend community events, and support one another through the ups and downs of life. Our calendar includes potlucks, playdates, dress-up days, service projects, movie nights, and markets, all designed to bring our families closer.

Absolutely. Every family joins a volunteer team — such as events, facilities, communications, or fundraising — to help make our community thrive.

Policies & Practical Details

Consistent attendance is key to mastery and community. We ask families to prioritize class days and communicate promptly about absences. Extended or repeated absences may affect placement.
Students should dress comfortably and modestly for an active day of learning and play. Clothing should be functional, neat, and free of inappropriate imagery or slogans.

Tuition varies based on the number of classes selected. There is a non-refundable $175 registration fee per student, plus tuition billed monthly September–May. Details are provided during the Connection phone call.

We have a few scholarship options available.

We maintain a low-tech environment for elementary levels to safeguard focus, creativity, and innocence. Students do not bring cell phones, smartwatches, or earbuds to class.

We use a relational approach rooted in grace and accountability. Our goal is to help students learn self-governance through gentle redirection, reflection, and restoration, not punishment.
