Community at Haywood Haven

Where Faith, Family, and Friendship Flourish.

At Haywood Haven, community is the heart of our mission. We believe children grow best in an environment that reflects God’s design, where faith shapes learning, families walk in partnership, and relationships are built on trust and joy.

Our community is more than a school family; it’s a living example of faith in action. We pray together, learn together, serve together, and celebrate together, honoring God and one another through every interaction.

How Children Build Community

Each day at Haywood Haven begins with connection and belonging.

Students arrive between 8:00 and 8:30 a.m., easing into the morning through play, building, art, and conversation. This unhurried start honors children’s need for movement and relationship, allowing their minds and bodies to awaken in peace.

We gather for Morning Meeting to pray, praise, and focus on our monthly scripture—learning that wisdom starts with the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 1:7). Then, in Homebase, students meet with peers for devotionals, snack, and encouragement before beginning their academic day.

Throughout the day, students experience the balance of mastery-based learning and joyful play. They move between skill-based groups for math and language arts, and peer-based groups for history, science, and lab. Each grouping builds confidence, competence, and connection—helping children take ownership of their learning while discovering purpose in how God uniquely made them.

Lunch and playtime form the social center of our day. Students share an unhurried hour and twenty minutes to eat, talk, and explore outdoors, enjoying more than two hours of movement and play each day. These rhythms strengthen friendships, restore focus, and remind us that joy and learning belong together.

How Families Build Community

We see parents as co-creators in their child’s education. Our partnership is built on mutual trust and shared purpose—parents are encouraged, supported, and equipped to engage in their children’s learning both at home and within our classrooms.

Family connection doesn’t end with the school day. Through Class Dojo, parents stay in touch with teachers and one another, sharing prayer requests, updates, and encouragement. This ongoing communication strengthens the sense of belonging that defines our community.

Throughout the year, our families come together to serve, celebrate, and build memories that reflect the heart of Christian discipleship:

  • Family Breakfasts that nurture fellowship and gratitude
  • Playdates and Potlucks that build cross-grade friendships
  • Seasonal Gatherings like Brunch with Santa and our Christmas and Mother’s Day Markets
  • Fundraisers and Service Projects that turn generosity into action.

These shared experiences cultivate honor, ownership, and joy. They remind us that education is not just about academics—it’s about equipping children and families to live out their God-given purpose together.

Supporting Families Beyond the Classroom

Our vision of community extends beyond the school day. We believe families thrive when they are connected, supported, and celebrated in every area of life.

That’s why we’re launching the Haywood Haven Community Directory, a place where families can share their businesses, services, and creative ventures so we can support one another intentionally. Whether you’re a local craftsman, small business owner, or family offering a service, the directory helps our community grow stronger together.
